    Chernobyl 100 update. ( Posted 17/7/23)

We are beyond delighted to have made our 100 target. Truly astonishing work from everyone! We can’t thank you enough! THANK YOU!

We heard recently that we can reach more children than was initially thought which is why we’ve been cracking on with kits for construction in the last few days. Every blanket will count!

Our new target will be 125!

We don’t need any more squares for 2023, however, if you had a Chernobyl blanket that wasn’t quite finished and you can get it done by September 18th, we would love to receive it. Thank you. We are just about to go on our summer break, but have said to construction crew that posting back of Chernobyl kit blankets should now be between September 1st and 18th. This falls in our summer break, but we’d like to get them in ahead. So this is our new time frame. Posting is Teddington.

If you have taken on a kit and don’t think you will be able to make this deadline, please shout, life happens, we can get it onto another crafter, no problems!

The plan looking forward for delivery, will be much the same as last year, children will be coming out of Ukraine for respite breaks. Our blankets will be driven over in October/November. THANK YOU EVERYONE!

    From the delivery last year!
    2022 delivery.

2023. Our Christmas Craft Sale, the crafting phase!

Welcome to our Christmas Craft Sale 2023

We know it’s July! But we know crafting takes such a long time. We are delighted though to be launching our Christmas Craft Sale 2023, we hope you will join us. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and will help us raise much needed funds to continue our woolly work. With your love and support we hope it is a huge success!

We are finalising our charity for this year, so news very soon, but we’d like to get the crafting stage underway.

Eevery penny we can raise will go to help others, we hope you will support us, either by crafting, buying or even maybe both! Thank you so so much.

So let the Crafting Stage begin!

We are aiming to make and sell small/lightweight Christmas craft items, and to keep postage costs to a minimum we ask that ideally anything made can be sent on to a buyer in a large envelope. We are open to larger items too obviously, that is just a guide. Some suggestions for you, but we are very open to others too…

    • Stocking fillers, although obviously Father Christmas is REAL, this is just to help.
    • Christmas tree decorations, bunting, garlands, general decorations. Always very popular, as are totally bonkers quirky things, yes we are thinking gin wreaths, woolly slugs and sock pigs, who knew??!  😀
    • Stockings
    • Cute cuddly things
    • Small gifts – Little bags, purses, brooches, hair accessories, key rings, gift bags, tags,
    • Clothing items such as gloves, hats, scarves, – if making clothing PLEASE inc the ball band or let us know so we can pass this info on to those who buy. xxx
    • Lovely lovely things!
    • Woolly, fabric, embroidered, beaded, ALL crafty crafts welcome!!

Just a few examples of the treasure sent last Christmas…

Last posting for crafts to be Friday 13th October 2023 please.

Earlier is very very helpful. thank you. So any time from September 18th after our summer break, thank you.

Posting will be to Teddington, please message for the address is needed.

    The Event itself…

Our Christmas Craft sale and Auction will take place ONLINE on a Facebook Event page as before, between Monday 13th – Sunday 19th November.

We will set up the event page after the Summer break. Some items will be up for instant sale on this event wall during this time, others through auction on our Auction Site which will help folk not on Facebook, or those who prefer to take part in this way.

We are keeping it all crossed that this Sale will be a huge success, with your love and support we have every confidence, huge heartfelt thanks.

  • Chernobyl 2024. Reach for the stars!

Chernobyl 2024. Reach for the stars!

The invasion of Ukraine by Russia as we all know is incredibly devastating, some of our Chernob families have been able to leave, others have to stay, but the CLL continue to be astonishing in their efforts to support families. Even those who managed to flee now have incredible stuggles as funding ceases and finding accommodation or meeting basic needs are a challenge.

We can’t fix this, but we can do our part as best we can. We can confirm our project will run in 2024, and are launching it as Chernobyl 150. We aim to achieve 150 blankets!

Check out our Christmas in Poland blog. Looking back to last year, mid December 45 Ukrainian children were driven to Lubin in Poland by our friends at the Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline for a respite break with Christmas treats and Father Frost! We can only imagine how much this was needed. We have included a few pics from their trip. So delighted to see our name on their fireplace. These children already have very little, still with the threats from the legacy of Chernobyl , now with war looming all around and the impact that has on every part of daily life. Each child was given one of our blankets. This is overwhelming. In addition, children and their mums already refugeed in Lublin came for a Christmas partyWhat the Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline have done here is extraordinary, so glad these children and families have a warm blanket full of love from us. So glad we can do this. These kids are now all going back into Ukraine with the uncertainty, dangers and chaos. Ot continuing with their refugee status. But they’re all taking love and woolly warmth from us. It doesn’t fix anything but it’s a tangible sign of love and care.

This means the world. Thank you!

So we hope you are all ready for Chernobyl 150 in 2024?!

24 we hope to repeat this, and with your love and support we are very hopeful!

    We need YOU!!

    Here’s how you can help….

    Candy floss
    Blush
    Shrimp
    Fondant
    Bright pink
    Pomegranate
    Fuchsia purple

    Sherbet
    Duck egg
    Cloud blue

Squares. We need twelve inch squares in the Stylecraft Special DK palette as in photo,  if 12 is too much, 6 inch squares are fine too, just this yarn in these colours please, inc for embellishments so the blankets come together and are consistent for wash and wear. Knit and crochet equally welcome, beginner or expert, as simple or complex as you like, single colour, multi colour. Design of square up to you, but not too lacy, they need to be hardy. Please use a 4mm hook or needles. If sizing is a challenge with your pattern/tension, we prefer them just under sized rather than over!

SO IMPORTANT! Please ensure you knot off every end/colour change very very securely, leave approx a 6 inch tail end and use a needle to sew in. These blankets have to be super sturdy as there is no way back to fix them if squares collapse.

Whole blankets We know some crafters love to make their own whole blankets and this is wonderful! Please use SSDK. Finished blanket size remains the same at 48inches by 60 inches, and please work within the colour palette.

Donating funds As always we like to be inclusive and would love to send yarn to folks who otherwise would not be able to craft. In addition,we already know there will be the cost of transporting them to the children again and would be incredibly grateful to anyone who would like to donate funds for this project.
