  • The Blanket for SanJunipero

    The Blanket for SanJunipero

To everyone who contributed to our beautiful Woolly Hug,

Our blanket arrived this morning and it’s so, so lovely. I can’t imagine the hours and hours of work you all must have put into it – and you’ve never even met us. Thank you from the bottom of my heart; I love it, and promise we’ll treasure it forever.

There are so many beautiful little details; I’ve spread it out on the floor to look at and keep noticing new things – flowers, stars, rainbows, our initials, chicks, tea and cake, sewing, Harry Potter, little birds… even a hedgehog! Everything she loved is there.

I’ve been showing our son the blanket, and he particularly loves taking the little guinea pig and chick out of their pockets smile He was nine months old when my wife died and turned eighteen months last week, so he’s now got to the point where he’s had longer without her than with her. That’s been a sad thought for me over the past few days, so our Woolly Hug arrived just at the right time.

Thank you all again so very much.

    C xxx

  • Christmas Craft Sale 2019

    Christmas Craft Sale 2019

Welcome to our Christmas Craft Sale 2019 for Shine Cancer Support.

Shine exists exclusively to support adults in their 20s, 30s and 40s who have experienced a cancer diagnosis. their website is here, they do amazing work.

There is never a good time to have cancer, but they recognise that younger adults face different issues than their older or younger counterparts – and that many of these are not dealt with by traditional cancer support charities and services. They work hard to ensure young adults living with cancer can access the help and support that they need in a way that suits their lifestyle. They do this through a range of activities including lunches and drinks evenings, beach walks, multi-day getaways, workshops, online networking, and mentoring. The overall aim is to create a confident, supportive and empowered community of young adults living with cancer.

They gave the most enormous invaluable support to one of our own – Chrissie (also known as LeslieKnope by many)

We will donate one third of all raised to Shine, using two thirds to support our own projects and keep them running, ambitious and inclusive. So every penny we can raise will go to help others, we hope you will support us, either by crafting, buying or even maybe both! Thank you so so much. x

  • Welcome to the Summer of Woolly Love 2019!

Welcome to the Summer of Woolly Love 2019!

We know quite a few of our crafters like to have a project going on through the summer holidays, so welcome to our third Summer of Woolly Love!

We are focussing on two projects, both of which will be coming to an end in the run up to Christmas. One is new to us this year Christmas Cwtches and the other is our Snug for Christmas 2019.

Our challenge over the summer is to knit and or crochet as many 6 and 12 inch squares over the holidays for these two projects. So a perfect lightweight portable activity, perfect for sofa, train, park, beach, plane or car, or anywhere else you fancy!

    • General crafting info for either project…..
The yarn is Stylecraft Special DK. ONLY this for consistency, please carefully check the palette for each project.
    • Squares to be ideally 12 inch , but 6 inch is acceptable too, crochet or knitted equally welcome, please use 4mm hook or needles.
    • No blocking necessary and please sew in ends, and make sure any colour changes are firmly knotted.
    • All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert will be equally cherished. Simple, complex, single colour, mixed colour. It really is the love and thought that counts.
      Important re finishing off squares!
    • We want to be able to use all squares, and need for them to be sturdy and built to last. Finishing off is key here and very easily done. So once finished (or changing colour) securely double knot off leaving about 6 inches of yarn cut the end off.
Then using a needle, sew in the ‘pesky” end so that it disappears in the edge of your square.
    • All squares must have their ends sewn in please.

If you feel ambitious and would like to make a whole blanket for ether project, then that is wonderful, please do let us know asap, we are aiming for blankets approx 48 inches by 60 inches, certainly no smaller. Please do stick to the given yarn/colours though.

  • The Blanket for J’sotherhalf’s family

    The Blanket for J’sotherhalf’s family

Wow, thank you doesn’t even cover it!

I’m the “J” in JsOtherHalf, and the stunning blanket you’ve made in K’s memory arrived today. It’s beautiful and myself and my son love it 💜 I’ve had the kitchen and dining room remodelled and the footstool storage for the new kitchen sofa is a perfect home for the blanket.

Next month will be one year since K passed away and she’s missed every day. She spent much of her online life on Mumsnet, using her experience of working with children with learning difficulties to good use with advice where needed. I’m proud that she meant enough to people for you to make this in her memory. Thank you x

Or original crafting thread is here…

Such a beautiful pic of their son with the Woolly Hug, thank you so much J xxxx
