Welcome to the Winter of Woolly Love 2020!

Welcome to the Winter of Woolly Love 2020!

We know some of our crafting crew enjoy to take on a small woolly/crafty project over the Christmas holidays, so are launching our Winter of Woolly Love.

This year we would like to focus on our Kinship Hugs

We are asked from time to time to help families or individuals within our own Woolly Hugs’ community going through incredibly difficult, bleak or sad times, by sending them a blanket full of love and comfort. We see these as helping folk who need support and compassion. Can you help us? We would be so very grateful. We would love to collect 12 inch ( or 6) squares in Stylecraft Special DK to make blankets, and would like to ficus on the two palettes as shown here. Our Traditional palette and Classic palette. This will help us in compiling and donating to families. Just from these colours please, simple, complex, single colours, multi (within a collection), all very welcome indeed. We also welcome knitters and crocheters equally to this project.

Please contact us if you need the postal address, but it will be Teddington and as soon as possible please after .

Traditional palette: Parchment, cloud blue, denim, sherbert, aster, petrol, lipstick, claret, burgundy.
The Woolly Hug classic palette: Lavender, plum, violet, emperor, storm, meadow, cypress, denim, petrol, sage

Please no blocking and PLEASE sew in your pesky ends. Thank you.

Do contact us if we can help any further. We are so grateful.

Much love to all this Christmas time

THANK YOU! xxxx

The Blanket for Crazyladee

To Pistey, Knotty and the wonderful woolly hugs ladies,
I have received the blanket this morning and I honestly can’t thank you wonderful ladies (and men if applicable!) enough. Its absolutely stunning and honestly, it’s arrived at the perfect time as its nearly 12 months since I lost my beautiful Alex I am struggling as you can imagine. I can’t wait to curl up in the evenings with it wrapped around me.
I shall treasure it for the rest of my life.

Thank you again Andrea, Matt, Oliver and of course, Alex xxxxx

The Blanket for shefliesonherownwings

Remembering beautiful baby Isla. November 10th 2019. Our original thread is here…  Thank you so much everyone xxx

DH and I opened the Woolly Hug on Tuesday which was Isla’s first birthday and we were blown away by how beautiful it is. The care and love that has gone into it is evident and I didn’t expect anything so lovely and huge! We loved the frame with Isla’s name in it too and it has pride of place in the nursery.

We really are so so grateful to everyone who donated their time and money to putting the blanket together and it is so wonderful to have something for Isla and James that has been made with so much love by people that don’t even know us. It has really filled my heart with so much joy and I look forward to treasuring it forever. I really can’t thank you all enough for doing this for us. We are very thankful and grateful. Sending so much love to you all.

Chernobyl project 2021

We have been speaking with the Trustees at Chernobyl Children’s lifeline about potential visits by the children they support to the UK during 2021.

We think we can all see that ongoing covid could well be a determining factor, and indeed they confirm the UK and Belarus need to be essentially clear. No-one would want to bring over already health compromised vulnerable children if there is any risk. Add into this the increasing civil unrest following the Belarusian  presidential elections and you can see there is substantial doubt over the visits to the UK next year. We are devastated for the children who didn’t come this year and worried about those who may not be able to visit next year.

The process of getting the children visas is very lengthy. Normally the process of getting children over begins each January, so you can see there is time pressure here too. We wish it was better news. The CCL Trustees meet in December and we may know more then.

We have this year’s collection in safe storage and should visits to children in Belarus take place next year, we propose trying to get these blankets out to them. But every blanket made for this project will go to these children.

Lovely folk have been contacting us about this project and we think our advice would be to wait, we may know more in December. It might be tempting to crack on, but a Chernobyl project blanket is both expensive and time consuming, so please do wait.

As soon as we know anything more we’ll be back.

All love G&G x

Refugee Project

Refugee project posting window is open between November 1st and Easter

Please read carefully, our refugee project will focus on blankets ONLY.

Our Refugee project during the pandemic has been incredibly challenging as we have struggled to get items to folk in need. Currently it is still impossible for us to reach folk in Refugee camps as we historically have done, and we long for  the time when this is possible again. At present we are focussing on blankets and blanket squares and are reaching folk in this country. Six or 12 inch squares in good quality acrylic, all ends must be sewn in.

We are supporting families being resettled from Afghanistan and Ukraine. This is Tania and Maryna from Ukraine, currently living in the UK but busily raising funds for a field hospital and night vision goggles. Truly inspiring women.

Thank you so much for your continued support.
